Philosophy of the Eaton Cross Country Program

Eaton Cross Country has a long and proud tradition of both team and individual accomplishment at the state and local level.  Although names and faces change from year to year the tradition of our program is based on a simple set of ideas developed over many years.

Cross Country is a sport that allows every athlete the opportunity to compete in an athletic event, regardless of his/her natural ability. Each athlete has the opportunity to participate and compete with other athletes of varying abilities. Therefore, each runner is able to gauge success on an individual basis. No one is unworthy, no one is cut, no one is "riding the pine."  All members of our student body are actively encouraged to join the team. The only requirement of our athletes is that they attend every practice with the desire to work hard, improve and give something back to the program.

Every athlete we have has unique abilities. We ask that every athlete work hard to maximize that potential. It is also our desire as coaches that our athletes go on and continue to maintain a level of fitness as part of their lifestyle. To find our alumni at a road race, competing at the college level, out on a training run or at Fort St. Clair Park helping the current program is the best reward we could hope for as a program.  Our "family" approach to Eaton Cross Country is a very rewarding and meaningful aspect to all athletes, coaches, parents, friends and relatives involved.
